The Brokerage That Spent Zero on Marketing

How Zerodha became India's largest stockbroker without a single TV ad.

The Brokerage That Spent Zero on Marketing

Most fintech success stories follow a familiar script: raise capital, burn it on customer acquisition, chase growth at any cost, exit. Zerodha tore up that script and wrote a new one.

Founded in 2010 by brothers Nithin and Nikhil Kamath, the Bangalore-based discount brokerage has never raised a rupee of external capital. It has never run a paid marketing campaign. And yet, it serves over 13 million customers and processes nearly 15% of all retail trades in India.

The Kamath philosophy is simple: build a product so good that customers tell each other about it. Charge fairly. Pay your team generously. Reinvest profits. Repeat.

In an industry obsessed with scale and speed, Zerodha is proof that compounding patience beats compounding capital.
